A Raspberry Pi on a monitor
A Raspberry Pi 3 or newer with Raspberry Pi OS (with desktop) runs the wall well, and costs little to leave on all day.
- Set up the Pi with Raspberry Pi Imager: Raspberry Pi OS with desktop, your Wi-Fi, and automatic login.
- Open hestiacalendar.com/tv in Chromium. On your phone, open hestiacalendar.com/link and type the code. The Pi now opens your wall from hestiacalendar.com/tv every time.
- Turn off screen blanking: Raspberry Pi menu → Preferences → Raspberry Pi Configuration → Display → Screen Blanking off.
- Start the wall full screen on boot. On current Raspberry Pi OS (labwc), add this line to
~/.config/labwc/autostart:chromium --kiosk --noerrdialogs --disable-session-crashed-bubble https://hestiacalendar.com/tv & - Restart. To turn the picture for a tall screen, use Preferences → Screen Configuration.
Hestia reloads itself after an update and keeps working through short network drops.
